Brocade

The history of brocade dates back to ancient times, where it was highly valued in Eastern and Mediterranean cultures for its beauty and richness. Over time, brocade became a symbol of status and wealth, and was reserved for the aristocracy and nobility. In the Middle Ages, brocade was popular for making ceremonial clothing, such as bishops' robes and court vestments.

The Shantung (Chantum)

Shantung is a type of silky, textured fabric, originating from the Shandong province of China. It is often used in making high-quality clothing, such as evening dresses and formal suits. Its slightly irregular appearance and subtle shine make it an elegant choice for various occasions.

For my part, I discovered shantung during my trip to Senegal , called “Chantum” by the locals.

This fabric was notably used in Christian Dior 's bar suit in 1947: "Afternoon suit, corolla skirt, black wool, natural shantung jacket"
